Project Description

Swiss Economics was commissioned by Fürschi Züri to analyse the economic effects of housing protection regulations. The study focuses on how such interventions affect real estate owners' incentives to invest, the renewal of the housing stock and the available housing supply. Drawing on the experience of the cantons of Geneva, Vaud and Basel-Stadt, it transfers the resulting findings to the Canton of Zurich. On this basis, the study assesses the effects on replacement of new-buildings, residential construction investment, housing supply and densification for the Canton of Zurich.

Method

  • Literature review
  • Empirical analysis (cross-cantonal comparison)
  • DCF and investment analysis
  • Quantitative projections
